3. Printing to UNIX Printers

MOM uses UNIX commands to print to a particular printer queue (lp, lpr, etc.), therefore you must know the "queue name" to which you want to print.
Let's assume the printer is an Epson DFX-8000 and the queue_name associated with that printer is "epson-dfx-8000"

  1. Enter four characters to identify the printer in the "Printer ID Options field" (must be uppercase letters or numbers). Press [Enter] key twice

  2. In the "Printer Type" dialog box select the "Printer Device (/dev/LP) " option. Press [Enter] key

  3. In the "Description" field type in a short name to identify the printer. Press [Enter] key.

  4. In the Device field, type the UNIX print command preceded by the ">" sign. Press [Enter] key.

  5. The Assignment dialog box will show up: select "System Wide Definition ". Press [Enter] key
(If you want to define this for a particular workstation select "Local Definition" and type the workstation's terminal Id. in field (5) )

  6. In the "HP Laser/DeskJet" field type in "N" (we are assuming that this is a Epson dot-matrix printer)
(If we were installing a HP LaserJet printer, this field must be set to "Y")

  7. Next a dialog will prompt you to select the MOM printer diver.
(Select the epsons.mom to print in standard font size or epsonc.mom to print in condensed font size). Click [Open] button.

  8. Finally fill the remaining fields:
    (07) Not used
    (09) Force form-feed at first or last page
    (10) Type a detailed description to help to identify the printer definition.
    (11) Not used
    (12) ( Y ) if there is a cash drawer attached to the printer (default is N)
    (13) Time out delay before MOM issue an error if printer is not ready (default is 15 seconds)
  9. Press the [Enter] key to save the new printer definition.
