Modem Communication Software
Laplink 2000/Laplink Gold
In order to assist our clients over the modem, we require a Remote Control Software and a File Transfer Software.Ê Laplink 2000 or Laplink Gold Software (from Traveling Software) provides this functionality.Ê This software must be installed in at least one of the clientâs workstations.
The phone line connected the modem must be a dedicated line (meaning it should not go thru the switchboard).
Ê
We use the Remote-Control software to remotely take control of one the clientâs workstations and directly assist the user with MOM accounting procedures, program debugging, program customization, troubleshooting, and system/network configuration.
We use the File Transfer software to transfer program fixes, updates or upgrades.
Assistance over the Internet
Laplink 2000/Laplink Gold
If the client has a permanent access to the Internet by DSL or T1/T3 connection we can, also, use Laplink to do the same functions as previously described.Ê In this case we need to know the IP address of the workstation that host Laplink (We recommend to install Laplink in all workstations that will be running MOM).
Clients with UNIX systems need to have a FTP software installed in the same workstation were Laplink is installed.Ê The FTP software allows us to transfer files from that workstation to the UNIX server.
There are several good FTP software packages on the Internet.Ê WS_FTP, CuteFTP, FTP-Voyager are some the shareware versions.
MOMâs help files require Acrobat Reader software to open or print those files.
MOM installation CD includes a copy of the shareware version
of this software. If you would like to have a full version of this software you
may download it here.
Some clients like to print screen shots of the MOM working screens. MS Windows provides a way to capture a screen to a clipboard and then paste it to any word processor like WordPad or MS Word.Ê MOM (using the PVX features) also provides a way to capture and paste screen shots. (For more information about these procedures call CWS-MIS Division at 510-979-5600)
Another easier way is to use PrintKey4 software, a freeware application that allows you to print screen shots using the [Print-Screen} key.
