Installing MOM

MOM is an application software written with one of the most powerful graphical computer languages ProvideX (PVX, a product of The Sage Group plc.). As such MOM works in any computer platform supported by ProvideX (PVX).

Currently MOM supports the following network operating systems: Windows NT, Windows 2000, Novell, SCO-UNIX, IBM AIX, HP-UX, SUN and Linux, and the following workstation operating systems: Windows 95/98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Windows 2000 Pro.

MOM maintains a unique set of programs, help files, and core data files regardless of the network operating system in which it is hosted.Ê There are, however, important configuration differences, related to the each specific serverâs operating system. These specific differences are basically related to the way that the OS interface with peripherals (like printers) and the way they assign files access privileges to users and groups.

MOM can be installed in any of the following basic network configurations:

Before you install MOM in your system be sure you have the following items:

MOM Installation CD (The appropiate version for your system)

The PVX Serial Number and Activation Key

Installing MOM in a stand-alone PC

Run the "setup.exe" program from MOM installation CD provided and follow the wizard.

Installing MOM in a Peer-to-Peer Network, Novell Network and MS Windows NT/2000

On your server (or workstation acting as a server) create a shared folder and name it MOM (This shared folder must be visible for all workstations running MOM and must have full permissions. This folder will be mapped on your workstations using a common drive letter denomination e.g. "M:")

If you are in a peer-to-peer network run the "setup.exe" from the MOM installation CD on the workstation "acting" as a server. On Novell networks use any workstation and run "setup.exe" from the MOM instalation CD. On MS Windows NT/2000 networks use the server console to run the "setup.exe" program from MOM installation CD provided and follow the wizard.

Installing MOM (Client/Server) in a MS Windows NT/2000 with NTHost/NTSlave Setup

This version of MOM requires your network to be configured with the TCP/IP protocol (server and workstations).

On your server create a new folder and name it MOM (This folder must have full permissions for all user running MOM)

Use your server console to run the "setup.exe" program from MOM installation CD provided and follow the wizard

The installation proccess creates several subfolders under the main MOM folder (PVX). One of those subfolders is called "Workstation", you will need to access that folder from each workstation you want to use with MOM in order to install the workstation WindX client software. Open the "Workstation" folder from the workstation and run the "setup.exe" program.
